Our Minneapolis Bartenders worked an awesome 325 person wedding at the Flemming Airfield Museum in St. Paul. This is a great venue that allows you to BYOB and they keep the antique airplaned in the hangar durning your reception. The whole wedding party and band was situated under this huge bomber. Our bartenders really enjoyed working here. Must be a Minneapolis trend but this was the second time we have had the wedding party provide homeade moonshine called apple pie… It wasnt horrible.

With A Twist Bartending Service really enjoys Vodka 14. Pick up a bottle on your next liquor run and try it with some of these great spring drinks.

Organic Cocktail Recipes for Spring 2010 Presented by Vodka 14

Now that winter snows are melting here in Colorado and the first buds of spring have emerged, Vodka 14’s in-house mixologist Mitch Baris is pleased to present three new cocktails for the season. Each features light, fresh, crisp spring flavors, and of course Vodka 14, craft-distilled from the finest organic ingredients to pair effortlessly with even the most delicate flavors.

Spring Mint Lemonade: This crisp and slightly tart cocktail forgoes sugar and artificial sweeteners, leaving a fresh taste perfect for the first evenings outside on the porch: in a lowball glass, muddle two ounces of Vodka 14 and one or two large leaves of fresh garden mint. Add two ounces of soda water and the juice of half of a Meyer lemon (a naturally sweet variety of the fruit). Stir thoroughly and fill to the rim with ice. Garnish with a full wheel slice of Meyer lemon on the rim and a sprig of fresh mint.

Grapes of Spring: This simple cooler offers an effervescent natural sweetness that makes it perfect for springtime entertaining. Pour three ounces Vodka 14, 1.5 ounces organic white grape juice, and 1.5 ounces of sparkling water over ice in a highball glass. Stir. Garnish with a skewer of whole organic green grapes and a sprig of fresh mint. Bring on spring.

Amelia Earhart: The Amelia is our take on two classics, a sumptuous cocktail that proudly straddles the line between the historic Aviation and the ever-chic Cosmopolitan. To create it, shake three ounces Vodka 14, two ounces organic cranberry juice, one ounce Rothman & Winter Crème De Violette and a generous squeeze of fresh organic lime over ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a wheel of lime.

Interesting additions for your Champagne toast!

New Years Eve is right around the corner and that means you better get your Champagne toast ready. Champagne is by far the most popular drink for New Years Eve. Make your Champagne a bit more exciting this year with some simple additions that will make people say WOW.

**Put a dash of liquor to add variety. Leopold Brothers out of Denver make some of the best small batch liquors. Blackberry, Sour Apple, Cranberry, tart cherry and Peach.

**Try some flavored rock candy sticks to jaz up your bubbly. Or use some flavored suckers with extra long sticks, bubble gum center-bonus!

**One of the simplest and most elegant additions to your Champagne is a variety of fresh berries. I like Rasberries, Strawberries, and Blackberries.

**For an over the top garnish get some Hibiscus Flowers in Syrup for an amazing garnish at teh bottom of your flute.

These tips should help you on your way to making your New Years Eve Party memorable. Dont forget to hire your Denver or Chicago bartenders from With A Twist Bartending Service.

This is a great warming drink for the holidays. Use a cheaper bottle of wine as the flavor is going to be enhanced by all the aromatics added in this recipe. Be careful not to simmer to hot or all the alcohol will boil off and you will be left with a non-alcoholic wine cider.

Ingredients

4 cups apple cider

1 (750-ml) bottle red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon

1/4 cup honey

2 cinnamon sticks

1 orange, zested and juiced

4 whole cloves

3 star anise

4 oranges, peeled, for garnish

Directions

Combine the cider, wine, honey, cinnamon sticks, zest, juice, cloves and star anise in a large saucepan, bring to a boil and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Pour into mugs, add an orange peel to each and serve.

“What kind of beer should I serve at my party” is one of the most frequently asked questions. Although spawned from good intentions, we have worked many parties where there were five or eight differnt kinds of beer. It sounds great to have so many options but it usually creates a beer shortage. With only a small amount of each kind of beer, you are certain to run out of many and the bartender ends up having to tell people all night that whatever beer they were drinking last is gone. A better stategy would be to have maybee three kinds of beer and plenty of each to make it through the party. The unpleasantry of running out of certain flavors is avoided. A safe bet is one light beer like a Coors Lt and a couple different micro brews or craft beers. This will appeal to nearly all of your guests.

You can get a lot differnt cosmos out their, this is my favorite!

20z Citron Vodka

3/4oz Grand Mariner

3/4oz Cranberry Juice

2 Lime Wedges

Pour all ingredients and lime wedges into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. There should be tiny ice crystals in the drink when its poured, you want to be able to “skate on it”. This drink is supposed to highlight the citrus and spirits. All to often bartenders ruin good cosmos with to much cranberry. A cosmo should be light pink, if it looks like a glass of cranberry, send it back. Most cosmos will use triplesec or cointreau but I like the depth of flavor and complexity that Grand Mariner adds.

When throwing a cocktial party at your home you really need to put some thought into the flow of your party. Where are people going to congregate and where are the possible bottlenecks. If your hiring a bartending service, you want to pick a space for the bar thats not on carpet, there will be some spillage. Also its nice to have the bar in an area thats contained so guests wont be able to see or get behind the bar. This keeps the clutter and extra supplies out of site and your bar area looking svelt. Be sure that you have plenty of space between the bar and any tables and chairs as people tend to congregate at the which can leave to a bottleneck.

To many people make the mistake of putting all of the food in the kitchen, this can lead to some major traffic jams. Try to spread some of your food stations through out the house. People will naturally keep circulating and moving around and ultimately meeting and talking to more people, which is what cocktail parties are all about!

Cheers!

These days more and more people are taking more care with their trash. If you are having a house party or wedding reception dont forget to put out the recycle bins. This is an often overlooked detail, but your guests do notice. People will always ask the bartender if there is a recycle bin and scoff when there is not. With A Twist Bartending uses compostable corn cups for our parties our glassware, no red keg cups please.

Also dont forget to label your trash and recycle containers otherwise you will have all kinds of mixed trash because people are left guessing.

Help us all out and make sure your venue is recycling!
